Marketing Basics: Profitability

email
There are lots of marketing rules… lots of marketing methods… but there is only one marketing mantra…
“If you provide a crappy product or service, no amount of good marketing will sell it for you.”
I remember years back when the McRibblett sandwich (fictional product) was introduced.  It was a glorious clump of meat product pressed into the shape of a rack of ribs and slathered in bbq sauce. Mmmmmm.
My thought then was who would eat mystery meat that looked like…. well… mystery meat.
Not many I guess because the McRibblett sandwich was only a temporary product.  Over the years they keep bringing it back…. but it will never be a permanent fixture.
If you remember the McRibblett sandwich and even if you don’t there are some good marketing lessons here.
1.  If you want to sell mystery meat, just pour delicious BBQ sauce on it.  Let’s face it  BBQ sauce can fix anything if its good BBQ sauce.
2.  People will try just about anything, because there is a buyer for just about anything.  That doesn’t make said item good or bad.
And so, if you keep the simple mantra in mind you’ll be a heck of a lot more profitable.  Give good stuff and you’ll get good stuff.
[Disclaimer:  The McRibblett sandwich is a fictional sandwich.  No McRibblett sandwich was harmed during the writing of this article.  No comparison should be made between the McRibblett sandwich in this piece and any other 'real' sandwich.]
