Mussels and 100k
So yes, I have added yet another “new” feature to the Red.Hot lineup and it’s the Women Who Rawk Fridays. How fun is that?!
I think we could all use a little inspiration and for me the best inspiration comes from women who are doing awesome things. Of course women in business rawk but there are women out there making a mark and making a difference in ways that aren’t just about business. It’s the desire to do more and be more that creates Red.Hot.Momentum for others.
I am also always in awe of people who do incredible things that I could not do myself, I respect that they have taken the time to learn and cultivate those skills and talents. We each have a special thing, a special power that speaks to us and gives us the drive to be great at it, to pursue it.
So although I’m not thinking about doing shellfish research any time soon… I totally LOVE that Samantha Garvey is doing it and Ms. Garvey is the first Woman to RAWK this new feature.
$100k for Homeless Teen
Yeah, you read that right! Samantha Garvey is 17 years old and homeless and yet, she has just been named a semifinalist in the Intel Search For Talent which could net her a cool $100k if she wins. And although $100k is awesome, what really RAWKS is Ms. Garvey’s attitude.
Ms. Garvey’s determination in the face of very challenging odds gave me the inspiration to start this feature. Here’s a girl who despite recently losing her home, despite having to live in a homeless shelter with her family, despite not having a desk for homework or a quiet place to study has defied those odds and become an inspiration and lesson for us all.
I am impressed by her fortitude and her determined attitude.
What does she want to share with others facing difficult times, just this:
“I’m right there with you,” she said. “I hope things get better, because they do.”
I call that… RED.HOT! I’ll be crossing my fingers for her!

U.S. Navy Destroyer Rescues 13 Iranian Hostages
You might have seen the news earlier this week about 13 Iranian Hostages being held on their own boat by pirates. They were rescued by U.S. Navy forces 40 days after their boat had been seized by the pirates.
So why does this story make the cut?
Simple.
The U.S. Navy Destroyer who came to the rescue has U.S. Navy Cmdr. Jennifer L. Ellinger at the helm.
A women commanding a Navy Destroyer… oh yeah, that RAWKS!
(For more on the story click here.)
Until next time… keep it RED.HOT!

How fab Yolanda
very inspiring, love it!
Yay! I’m glad you liked it Anita!
Hey Yolanda – You RAWK! Keep it up, Girl.
Woot for strong women! Love this feature, Yolanda, thank you
Great new feature! I’m going to look forward to this.
One you might want to consider: a young female powerlifter who lost one of her legs and is competing again—doing (damn near impossible) things like deadlifting on one leg. Her attitude is the great part. Videos here:
